And Speaking of Language:
Dialects and “Jargon” Two issues that make translation difficult are local “dialects” and industry “jargon.” How can these impact YOUR translation?
Dialects: The same language may be spoken in many countries but the local “dialect” will sound different (the “accent”). In addition, dialects of the same language contain words that have very different meanings. Some perfectly common words in Mexico, for example, can make your customers blush in Peru. “Dialects” in any language can cause confusion. Our translators and interpreters work to match the dialect and the appropriate alphabet to the audience you need to reach. (See “Bloopers”)
Jargon: Industry Terminology, or “Trade Jargon” is another area that can make translation difficult. For example, the word “stripper” in English can mean: A substance used for removing paint – A surgical device for removing veins – A print or photography professional who works with negatives. – Or, a racy dancer.
Can you afford to work with a translator who does not understand the jargon of your industry?
Sometimes an incorrect translation is funny. More often, it is ludicrous or even dangerous. (See “Bloopers”) You need your translation to be correct the first time.
